Creative Connectors - No. 8- Kensuke Koike
@kensukekoike - Creating a new image made up only of itself: no more no less.
About this Resource:
Creative Connectors is a series of case studies showing how “success-FULL” artists & creators are connecting with their true fans.
It’s also a follow-up tool from the free resource The Connection Blueprint by Stop The Starving Artist.
Each example in this series is made up of the creator (or artist), the vehicle (or creation), and the 3 connection components - the belief, opponent, and story.
Use these case studies to see how you could better authentically connect with your audience through your own work, social media, and heART based marketing.
Let us know in the comments below if you have a creator in mind for us to use as a case study!
✅ The Creator (Visual Artist): Kensuke Koike
Kensuke Koike is a contemporary visual artist who creates unique artwork by manipulating found photographic material. Koike currently resides in Venice, Italy. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Venice and the Università Iuav di Venezia Faculty of Arts & Design. He is best known for his collages.
✅ The Vehicle (The Creation): Photo Collages
Kensuke works with original photos for a challenge, as he can only alter the photo once. He looks at each photo as a problem to be solved and then alters it to force a different perspective entirely. He refers to himself as an alchemist: a person who transforms or creates something through a seemingly magical process.
⚠️⚠️⚠️The 3 Components That Make It Connect:
In the Connection Blueprint, we outline 3 important components that allow your fans to establish a quicker and more compelling connection with YOU as the artist: Your Belief, Opponent, and Story.
Let us know in the comments below if you can spot any of these in his posts.

Now.. Share what jumps out at you:
Here are just a few examples we spotted on how he uses these 3 components to connect with his audience in an authentic, true to self, and success-FULL way:
⚠️ Belief:
Kensuke’s belief evolves around the idea of using the assets found within a photo or image to create a new narrative without adding to it. The process of de-construction & re-construction allows the viewer to think differently about the world around us.
⚠️ Opponent:
His opponent, although isn’t outright stated may actually be the photographer’s view or anyone else who takes what is seen as it is as if it were complete. Kensuke’s “go with the flow” kind of humor, allows for play within his work which counters the seriousness of photography and graphic design.
⚠️ Story:
For his fans, witnessing the before, during and after is important to understand the humor and awe he portrays while creating. The TRANSFORMATION is within each piece as we ponder the story behind the photo.
Fans of Koike know his artworks have been exhibited globally at museums and exhibitions around the world such as The Photographers’ Gallery, London; Postmasters Gallery, New York; Ciocca Contemporary Art, Milan; A plus A Gallery, Venice; IMA, Tokyo; Yancey Richardson Gallery, New York; Design Museum, London; Asama International Photo Festival, Japan and Guangdong Museum of Art, China.
